I love Italian food. It is my favourite cuisine to cook as most Italian dishes require such simple ingredients and methods but somehow they taste so divine. I love it all but pasta has to be my all-time favourite comfort food. To me, there is nothing more hearty than eating a big plate of warm cheesy pasta. In this blog, I’m going to share where to eat in Rome!
This list is based on what we ate in Rome during our 3 days there. I don’t dare say these are the “best” places to eat at because everyone’s liking is different and there is just SO much good food in Rome that I’m sure I haven’t tried yet. We also did not research much about restaurants before our trip, so most of these are places we encountered and genuinely thought that the food was fantastic! Here is my itinerary – How to Spend 3 days in Rome.
Here are my top 5 places to eat in Rome!
1. Pizza Zizza
Pizza Zizza is a small local restaurant just outside of Vatican City. They serve a great variety of freshly made pizzas. We went to this restaurant for lunch after touring the Vatican Museums that day. The staff recommended us to get the pizza sampler, for just 9 euro per person. The sampler is the most popular choice as you get to try all the different pizzas. All the flavor profiles were so delicious and it was such a satisfying meal. The service was very good as well. We had to line up for a little bit and they offered us their amazing supplì (an Italian street food – essentially a ball of rice with meat and cheese coated with bread crumbs and deep fried) as a complimentary snack while waiting. It was so delicious we ended up ordering an order of supplì during our meal. Takeout and outdoor seating available. Vegan options are available as well.

2. Gelateria del Teatro
When you are in Italy, how can you not try the famous Italian ice cream? Gelateria del Teatro, located near the Piazza Navona area, is one of the most popular places and for good reason. This place created super unique flavors such as White chocolate basil, Rosemary honey and Lemon, Ricotta Fig and almond, Cayenne Chili Chocolate and so on. Their fruity flavors are very refreshing as well and they are made from fresh fruits. Of course, they also serve traditional flavors of gelato. One of my all-time favourite flavor is Pistachio. Vegan options available!

3. Klass
Klass Restaurant is located near the Trevi Fountain and serves classic Italian cuisine. Their menu has everything from pasta and risotto to seafood dishes. We ordered the Ravioli with smoked ham, spinach pesto and pistachio, and the seafood risotto. Both dishes were delicious but I personally liked the Ravioli more. The atmosphere of the place is warm and comfortable, and the service was good. The indoor decor was very beautiful as well. The only downside would be the price is slightly on the expensive side. However, as the restaurant is located in the touristy area, prices would be similar between all the restaurants in that location. Vegan and gluten free options available.

4. Sapori e Delizie Roma
We found this little pizzeria after touring the Colosseum and decided to go in for lunch. It is approximately a 10 minute walk from the Colosseum. This hidden gem mainly serves fresh pizzas, as well as pastas and other appetizers. We ordered the Mozzarella and sausage pizza and we loved it. It was just the right amount of saltiness, and the crust was very thin and crunchy. We also ordered the lasagna, which is one of my favourite dishes growing up. The portions were quite big so we ended up packing the leftover lasagna to go. The price is very reasonable and the atmosphere was quiet and comfortable. It is the perfect place if you want to have a nice relaxing chat with your company over great food. Vegan options available.

5. Pompi Tiramisù
I save the best for last. Pompi has one of the best tiramisu I have ever tasted. It is located near the Spanish steps area. It is street food tiramisu and it comes in a small cardboard box so you can take it to go. One portion only costs 4 euro and it is totally worth it. They sell a variety of flavors such as hazelnut, strawberry, pistachio, banana and of course the classic flavor. We ordered the classic and strawberry flavor and they tasted amazing! Rich and creamy with moist cake and full of flavor. It was our friend from London that recommended us to try this place and I’m glad we did! As I explored London later on with my friend, we found out Pompi also has a location in London and of course we had to eat it again. This time, I tried the pistachio flavor as well and it did not disappoint!

Those are the top 5 restaurants we went to while visiting Rome! Good Italian food is so simple and focuses on enhancing the taste of the fresh ingredients. If you are planning to visit Italy soon, enjoy the cuisine and eat lots of gelato! : )

Notes
- Some restaurants have a table charge called “il coperto”. This is a service charge and it is usually less than 3 euro per person. If this charge shows up on your bill, that means there is no need to give extra tips as it is included.
- Restaurants around Italy do not serve water for free so keep in mind you have to pay for water wherever you go. People usually order wine instead because the prices of wine are relatively cheap in Italy.

Nice post Janice. The next time I go to Rome will definitely try out these places you mentioned. I love the pizza in Italy the most… the pizza are juicy, with a thin and soft bottom… the local people don’t like the pizza in north America, they said that those pizza’s bottom is so so thick, which is ‘biscuits’ instead but not pizza lol. I miss the Italian pizza very much after I am back to Canada.
