Extra itinerary
Trastevere
We originally wanted to explore this area but we didn’t have time. Trastevere is a fun bohemian area across River Tiber with many artisan shops, craft beer pubs and restaurants. Many say that this is the place to have the authentic Roman experience. So, if you are have time or you are staying nearby, it is certainly a nice area to stroll around. Notes:
- Getting around Rome- You will get by central Rome mainly by buses and metro. The public transit is very easy to use. I recommend getting a Roma Pass if you are planning to take the transit a lot. Click here for more info on transportation and fares.
- Be prepared to walk – A LOT! In general, travelling in Europe requires a lot of walking. I personally love walking everywhere when I travel. However, it is important take your time and go at your own pace. Don’t forget to take breaks along the way!
- You cannot have short skirts, short pants and bare shoulders in most churches and basilicas. So, remember to bring something to cover up during summer!
- On the first Sunday of every month, state museums and archeological sites are free in Rome. That including the famous sites: Colosseum and Roman Forum. On the contrary, the Vatican Museum is free on the last Sunday of every month. If you are travelling on a budget, this is something you can consider.
